Here's something interesting. Increasing the CPU speed from 3.6GHz to 4.7GHz has practically no effect in 3DMark 11's default performance test. We ran the test three times and observed near-identical results from all three configurations.
There's not much to be gained at the low-resolution Call of Duty: Black Ops test, either.
Yet there are a few games that remain CPU dependent irrespective of the resolution and image-quality settings. StarCraft II shows a 10 per cent gain in average frame-rate once the chip is clocked up. Gigabyte's board does well here, just beating out the ASUS.
