The HEXUS.transcode test is also multi-threaded and runs far speedier on Intel hardware.

For gaming, we ran Quake 4 at 1,280x800 low-detail settings. The stress is put on the integrated graphics and the HP comes out on top, leading the X4500 HD IGP in the Intel by some 50 per cent.

AMD's own M690G isn't bad, providing jerky, but fun, action.

IGPs won't be playing Crysis at high-detail settings any time soon, but it's refreshing to see them make some kind of stab at gaming.
