The battery test is simple enough. We run the Batman Begins DVD, from the optical drive, with screen brightness set to medium (48 per cent in Windows Mobility Center) and wireless turned off. The laptop is set to Vista's power-saver mode and we see how much battery juice is left after the 2hours 5mins film has run its course.
The HP wouldn't complete the test with the standard 4-cell battery, hibernating at around the 90-minute mark. Replacing it with the 8-cell model, also in our box, left around one-third charge, which is better than the pre-production than the other two laptops, albeit with them powered with standard shipping batteries.
