Benchmarks: Vitals and Battery Life

The numbers for power consumption and temperature don't tell the full story. When the tests begin, Surface Pro initially draws 40 watts from the wall and temperature peaked at 97ºC after a few minutes of intense load. The above readings are taken as an average from the last five minutes of the benchmark, by which point the Core i7 chip has settled back into its comfort zone.

Battery life is an area in which Surface Pro has been upgraded, and though we don't have a Surface Pro 4 for comparison, a runtime of just over 12 hours is in line with our expectations. It's also worth pointing out that our battery test is run at 50 per cent screen brightness, which translates to a bright and viewable 96 nits on Surface Pro and a relatively dim 50 nits on the HP EliteBook.
