The hidden surface removal test highlights the MR9600's lack of Hierarchical-Z in the Hyper-Z implementation. Early Z cull is a big bandwidth saver if done on chip, rather than having to read each pixel 'manually' in the buffer one by one.
Raw PS2.0 power, as shown by ShaderMark on the previous page, is a lot slower on Go5700. Fillrate is higher however, which should help translate into decent real world performance.
