AquaMark3 and X² - The Threat

AquaMark3

  • Author: Massive
  • DirectX Class: 9.0
  • Pixel and Vertex Shaders: Yes (mixed mode, PS1.4 and PS2.0)
  • FSAA and AF set via application

Whereas the DirectX synthetic tests were pretty close, AquaMark3, when run with image enhancement, shows ATI to be the top dog. ABIT's reference card does expectedly well. We'd have like to have shown you a, say, pre-overclocked ABIT 9800 XT Special Edition. ABIT didn't oblige.

X² - The Threat

  • Author: Egosoft
  • DirectX Class: 9.0
  • Pixel and Vertex Shaders: Yes (unknown versions or amount of effects)
  • FSAA and AF set via control panel

X² - The Threat is also a little faster on ATI hardware. ATI hasn't had to do much since the launch of the Radeon 9700 Pro. The 9800 XT is basically the same card, save for a few additional performance tweaks and higher clock speeds. That shows the lack of performance NVIDIA has delivered in the interim. ATI hasn't had to do anything special to stay near the top.
