Our somewhat irreverent look at these four Radeon X1900 XTXs serves to highlight that, despite significant financial outlay at the high end to secure one (or two), the resulting product offers no enticement to buy from one vendor to the next, other than on price. Bundles are almost identical bar the odd game or game demo collection (and none of the games offered in this roundup are absolutely standout).

Therefore if you're buying Radeon X1900 XTX and you're not considering something like Sapphire's Blizzard version with pre-fitted liquid cooling solution, there's no point spending more than you have to.

You can find all four examples for between £325 and £375 if you look around, so we can recommend Sapphire and ASUS if buying from Scan with the ASUS taking it if you fancy King Kong, the Sapphire if you're not bothered about bundled software.

You'll pay the same money for a GeForce 7900 GTX for a smidge less performance and worse ultimate IQ, so if you can stomach the Radeon X1900 XTX's worse environmentals (power, heat and noise) then the choice is clear. All come recommended for those with the wonga, just be sure not to pay over the odds for one over the others, for what amounts to the same graphics board from all four tested vendors.

I think the actual proverb ‘in chinese’ - “Don't use an axe to remove a fly from a friend's forehead” - actually carries a slightly different meaning (slightly.. but the usage is very different).. actually if this is the proverb I'm thinking of.. its not even translated correctly..

But a more accurate chinese proverb might be ‘using a butchers knife to skin a chicken’.. which actually adds up as a more accurate depiction of your current situation..

I know the axe bit still sounds cooler.. but just needs to clear out that the actual proverb you quoted can't be used to describe this situation..
It's not being used to describe any situation, though. I didn't want the proverb to mean anything at all, misquoted or not

It's just me being a clown in text, to lighten up something very dry.

My sincere apologies you didn't latch on to my obscure RysHumour. And my sincere thanks to PD for pointing me here. I think.
:P fair enough… nit picking really.. given that I havent spoken proper mandarin for 10 years or more.. my comments can be fairly dubious anyways..

It needed it - not your fault, but I agree that must have been a pretty dull comparison :p
hi kalniel,

…a pretty dull companion :p
a bit harsh saying that James Smith (HEXUS' Manager of Performance Analysis who undertook the lions-share of that X1900 XTX testing) is a pretty dull companion?

:p
