The GeCube HD2600XT X2 DDR2 1024MiB is fairly easy to summarise, then. It takes two Radeon HD 2600 XTs, amalgamates them on to one board, adds a 1GiB frame buffer - albeit with slower DDR2 memory - and CrossFires the two GPUs for reasonable midrange performance.Whilst we applaud any company going out of its way to create custom-designed SKUs, we see a two-fold problem with recommending the package. Firstly, our pricing is only approximate, as we can't find it on sale anywhere in the UK. The second problem is more pressing, however. The fact that AMD/ATI is launching two new midrange SKUs in the coming days is one of the worst-kept secrets in the industry. They promise to provide substantially more, in every respect, at the same kind of price-point as this GeCube card. Indeed, looking back, we'd rather GeCube have opted for 512MiB of GDDR4 memory instead of 1024MiB of DDR2, because bandwidth matters more than frame buffer with this kind of setup, wer reckon.
We'd urge you, the reader, to hold fire of any £100-£150 graphics-card purchase for a short while. Things will become a lot clearer soon enough. The GeCube HD2600XT X2 DDR2 1024MiB is a hugely niche product and that, folks, is it downfall.
HEXUS.certification
The card passed all of our tests and therefore is HEXUS.certified. That's not a recommendation to buy, however.GeCube HD2600XT X2 DDR2 1024MiB/span>
