--- Thermal Performance, Conclusion and Certification

Thermal Performance

Sometimes, when you see garish graphics and exotically-shaped fins, you can't help wondering how much is looks and how much is substance.

Well, despite, or perhaps because of its butterfly-cut fins, the Vanessa Type-L proved to be a capable cooler, posting a CPU idle temperature of 43 degrees to tie for eight place.

Under load, the cooler moved up the table - albeit by only a single place - but its 56 degree CPU reading was very respectable.

Conclusion

When we first laid eyes on the Vanessa Type-L's box, we were a bit worried about what lay within. The packaging is LOUD! Pink and light blue are not colours you see paired up too often in the enthusiast-cooling market.

But the Vanessa Type-L shows that it doesn't pay to judge a book by its cover. The package is excellent, the price is decent and what's delivered is good performance. It was a very pleasant surprise to discover just how capable this package was.

One little suggestion, though, to anyone buying a Vanessa Type-L - get rid of the stickers on the top. There's no need for them and they can only hinder cooling. Mind you, after a few hours bench-testing they'd half peeled off of our sample anyway.
