--- Appearance, Specification and Compatibility

Appearance

At 756g, the Evo 98 certainly isn't light. It's considerably over the Intel-recommended limit and comes in above the half-way point when compared with other coolers being reviewed. It is, though, fairly thin, with dimensions of 138(h) x 106(w) x 73(d) mm.

The Evo 98 is a bit of a weird one. It sits on a pre-fitted mounting plate and features a solid copper base with six individual heat-pipes sandwiched in place by a small aluminium heat-sink. Holding the cooler up to a light it's possible to see through the gap between base and heat-sink, which brings into question just how efficient the heat transfer is going to be.

Above the heat-sink are 52 aluminium fins. They're attached to the heat-pipes, float above the base of the cooler and feature a plastic shroud with the Evo 98 logo on the top. The shroud has a blue LED in each of its four corners. Fortunately for those of use who don't see the need for lights, these are optional.

The shroud can accommodate two sizes of fan - 80mm and 92mm – and carry one on each side if you wish. Bolts are included for 25mm and 38mm fan-depths.
