At CES 2007, Toshiba is launching what's set to be the world's first multi-function HD DVD rewriter for desktop PCs.
The SATA-based SD-H903A, pictured below, writes to single-layer (15GB) HD DVD discs and supports the standard optical formats that we know and love.
HD DVD write speed, though, is just 1x, whereas the latest Blu-ray Disc PC-based rewriters can burn at 4x to single-layer BD discs.

Toshiba
reckons that the SD-H903A offers a 'smooth and affordable
transition to
high-definition offerings from existing DVD platforms', but pricing is
yet to be confirmed and we don't expect it to come cheap. Sampling,
Toshiba says, will begin next month with volume shipments to follow
shortly afterwards.
The war between Blu-ray and HD DVD continues unabated and it's getting hotter and hotter.
