A computer game level designer and 3D artist by the name of Benoît Dereau has created an Unreal Engine 4 tech demo which differs widely from the usual fare of alien post-apocalypse scenes packed with demonic combatants that we usually get. Instead Dereau worked to create an ultra-realistic swish Parisian apartment interior.
The video you see above is the first work of Dereau in Unreal Engine 4. However, if you have a watch of the video you might well be taken aback by the realism of the apartment interior scene on offer. The apparent frame rate and camera movement isn't the smoothest in this video, showing a real-time wander around the apartment. Aware of this, the designer commented on the PolyCount Forums that "optimization was not the center of my work with this scene".
If you enjoyed the above video and would like to have a walk around the Parisian apartment for yourself, using your own muscular high-spec PC, a build of the UNREAL PARIS - Virtual Tour is now available to download from Benoît Dereau's portfolio website. Gamers might know Dereau's work from the credits of the 2013 BAFTA winning Dishonoured which used UE3.
Bully UE4
In related news game designer Wesley Arthur has recreated Bullworth Academy in UE4. The Rockstar game was last updated for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 so this video gives an idea of what a new Bully game could look like on a current gen console/PC.
