After numerous betas, Adobe has finally released the 10.1 version of the popular Flash plug-in.

Amongst other improvements, Flash 10.1 enables GPU-based acceleration of H.264-encoded content on Windows platforms. In pragmatic terms it means that even low-powered netbooks equipped with a rudimentary GPU will be able to play omnipresent Flash content without stuttering. GPUs from ATI, NVIDIA and Intel are supported, as well as the Broadcom Crystal HD decoder chip.

Read the full release notes here and download the cross-platform plug-in here.

Ah yes, the ubiquitous platform independent plugin that has features that only work on certain platforms.

Have they done anything to sort out the fact that a badly crafted piece of flash can rob you of a CPU core? Doubt it.

As you can see I'm in a particularly anti-flash mood today :D
err who cares if it can bomb out at 100%, surely the Kernel won't let a normal priority or lower thread prevent you from closing a tab thus solving the problem?
Well that's true but I still get peeved when I have to work out which of my 15 tabs is causing the slowdown.
Look at the chrome task manager?
I see what you're doing :P

OK, so Firefox could alleviate some of the problems with sandboxed tabs and a task manager, but really why should it have to? Flash has always been a tremendous CPU drain.
