Apple has made available Boot Camp 3.1, the latest release of the software utility that allows users to install Windows operating systems on Intel-based Macs.
Boot Camp 3.1, available in both 32-bit and 64-bit flavours, is the first official release to offer native support for multiple editions of Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system - including Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate.
Originally expected to be made available late in 2009, the belated update now addresses previously-identified problems with the Apple trackpad, and also introduces support for Apple's wireless keyboard and magic mouse.
However, reports of Boot Camp 3.1 problems are already appearing in Apple's support forums. A number of users have pointed out that the software's built-in ATI graphics driver is outdated, resulting in "horrendous colour banding" according to one disgruntled customer.
Thinking about putting Windows 7 on your Mac? You might want to obtain a few Apple-provided tools first - including a graphics firmware update for NVIDIA cards, Windows 7 drivers for late 2009 iMacs, and a specific Boot Camp utility for installing a Windows 7 upgrade.
