Adobe's Flash media platform has become incredibly popular since its introduction in 1996, but we're still awaiting two key developments for the Adobe Flash Player - namely a native 64-bit release, and a version optimised for mobile operating systems.
Fortunately for those waiting, the latter looks as though it'll arrive in beta form later this year. During a Q2 earnings announcement, Adobe revealed that a beta of Flash Player 10 will be coming to smartphones in October.
Good news for smartphone users, it seems, but Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen adds that the mobile-specific player will be optimised for Android, Symbian, Palm Web, and Windows Mobile operating systems. That's a lot of users covered, but there's no mention of support for Apple's iPhone or RIM's BlackBerry.
