Do you remember the last time Microsoft released a Windows Service Pack without it having leaked all over the interwebs before hand?

Well, Windows XP Service Pack 3 won't be one of those. Microsoft plans to make the latest service pack for the ever-popular operating system available via Microsoft.com on April 29th, but it seems some people just can't wait.

You'll no doubt find Service Pack 3 available on torrents everywhere, but you needn't go through all the trouble. This time, Microsoft's latest service pack can be obtained from the likes of Softpedia.com and Majorgeeks.com, both of which now have SP3 readily available to download.

It should be noted that you might not feel the need to rush out and get this one, it isn't packed with feature enhancements as SP2 was. "Windows XP Service Pack 3 includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers’ experience with the operating system", says Microsoft.

The download weighs in at approximately 300mb, if you find yourself unable to wait for the official release next week, let us know how you get on with SP3 in the HEXUS forums. Please be aware however that we haven't tried the download ourselves, and you do so at your own risk. Personally, we'd just recommend waiting for the official release, cause, you know, it's only official when Microsoft says so.

I think I'll wait a bit, I'm in no hurry, as I won't be doing my new build for a month or two, but it will come in handy then.
Same here.

Both my media PCs will be getting a re-install once MediaPortal goes final in a couple of months, so i'll do a re-install with SP3 (and take images once installed) once that happens.
thanks Microsoft, hosed my box here….

In what way?

I'm not going to install it on this system as its due for a format anyway - will slipstream it and see how it goes.

Anyone remember the decent performance increases that were happening with the Beta? Hope they are still there :)
sorry if this sounds dumb but what exactly is special about sp3? i dont recall any errors (for me anyways) with sp2, is it worth getting sp3? and this performance increase, would that be in general or more specific areas? sounds good anyways xD.
