Love it or loathe it, touch technology is becoming an integral component of many modern-day gadgets.

Our smartphones all have it, and, judging by the tablet-friendly features of Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 operating system, our PCs are shaping up to follow suit.

Perhaps with that in mind, peripheral manufacturer Logitech is giving itself a head start with the launch of the Touch Mouse M600.

Eschewing extra buttons in favour of a touch surface, the M600 follows in the footsteps of Apple's Magic Mouse and Microsoft's Touch Mouse by providing support for swipe and scroll gestures.

The mouse is wireless (connected via a standard Logitech Unifying receiver), powered by a pair of AA batteries, and compatible only with Windows, but it can be configured for left- or right-handed users through the bundled SetPoint software.

I can't say I've ever felt the need to use a touch interface with my PC, but if you are feeling a burning desire to unify the desktop and smartphone experience, Logitech reckons this is the mouse to do it and you'll be able to pick it up from Dixons later this month priced at £59.99.

Any readers spent some quality time with a touchy-feely mouse? If so, let us know how you got on in the comments section below.

Normal mouse buttons do wear out after a few years (even more so for pc gamers) so I am tempted to try out a touch mouse. Only if they are a bit cheaper…

But would a touch surface be responsive/sensitive neough for a gamer? For that matter, would it be robust enough for the ‘steady abuse’ that gaming or similar activities would entail long-term?
So it's basically just a glorified laptop touchpad? The only difference being the size and the look?

I believe it's an optical mouse with a touch surface on the top? So you can use swiping and multitouch gestures instead of using the mouse wheel, but you still move it around like a mouse…?

Really? My very first logitch MX518 still works fine and i game. Cant see this working well for gaming at all, you WANT lots of buttons when you are PC gaming in my experience.

i would assume so, thats how the apple one works!

I wonder if apple will have a crack at suing them over this?
