It looks like a few companies are already marketing products based on this platform and the common theme seems to be remote access to the contents of an external hard drive. Cloud Engines is offering a product called the Pogoplug which is designed to do just that and it's offering it for $79.
CTERA has made the CloudPlug, which boasts it will transform any external USB drive into a network file server with automatic online backup. The implicit connection to the ‘cloud' is the reason for the name.
Eyecon Technologies' software seems to be designed to allow you to access your media via a mobile device like a smartphone and control it from there.
Lastly Axentra launched a software product at CES (as did the rest of the above) called HipServ 2.0, which it refers to as "The next generation home server platform."
We would like to hear the views of the HEXUS.community on this ‘initiative'. Does it open a lot more doors for home networking or is it just a glorified powerline networking adaptor. Let us know in the usual place.
