A stock-clocked GeForce GTX 285 may offer performance on-par with a pre-overclocked GeForce GTX 280, but an overclocked model will extend the single-GPU performance lead that little bit further.

If you're on the lookout for an overclocked derivative of NVIDIA's pricey new high-end contender, BFG is getting off to a flying start with a choice of four, culminating with the range-topping GeForce GTX 285 OCX, pictured below.

The card makes use of NVIDIA's reference cooler, but showing the overclocking potential of a GeForce GTX 285, BFG ships its OCX's GPU pre-overclocked at a blazing 702MHz. Interested? The entire range breaks down as follows:

It's certainly an indicator as to what the GeForce GTX 285 can do when pushed, albeit with prices creeping dangerously close to the all-out performance champ - the GeForce GTX 295.

Nonetheless, North-American buyers worried about spending big bucks on a graphics card can take a little comfort in BFG's Trade Up program - it'll let you trade in and upgrade any BFG GeForce GTX 285 graphics card within 100 days of purchase - you'll only need to pay the difference, plus shipping. No such luck for us Europeans, but BFG has plans to launch a similar program in our neck of the woods later this year.

BFG's GeForce GTX 285 OC, GeForce GTX 285 OC2 and GeForce GTX 285 OCX are available to buy or pre-order from Scan.co.uk* at a cost of £332.67, £355.67 and a whopping £378.67, respectively.

Is there some school of business that I'm completely unaware off that says: when in a global recession and everyone is spending less money, that's the best time to release a boat load of virtually identical SKUs at an obscene price point.?
stupid aint it

Sure. The school of business that sends “buy non-accredited degrees” messages via spam ;)
