PRESS RELEASE

With the recent update 56 for Open-E DSS V7 the software specialist introduces the High Availability Cluster Maintenance Mode and new options for Data Replication

Atlanta, Georgia; March 11, 2016: – Open-E, a leading developer of innovative data storage software used for building and managing reliable NAS and SAN storage environments, released today the new update 56 for its renowned data storage software Open-E DSS V7, featuring new functionalities for convenient storage management.

In the previous update of Open-E DSS V7, the most anticipated features were the active-active and active-passive failover for both the NFS and iSCSI protocol. A cluster setup with Open-E DSS V7 provides fault tolerance and transparent failover via synchronous Volume Replication for NFS Shares or iSCSI Targets. It consists of two nodes where all volumes are synchronously mirrored over both servers. In case one server node fails, the software automatically switches all operations to the other one. Synchronous mirroring enables users to set up active-active or active-passive High Availability clusters between two locations with a distance of up to 70km (Gigabit Fiber).

Now, with the new Open-E DSS V7 update 56 the whole cluster can be conveniently managed with the High Availability Cluster Maintenance Mode that enables users to easily reconfigure their setup without downtime. It is also possible to replace hardware such as network interface cards and storage units – or even the whole node – during production.

More new options have been implemented in the Data (File) Replication feature of Open-E DSS V7. Replication efficiency over WAN can be increased by using the block-based mode and compression. Additionally, encrypted transfer of data is an optional functionality that boosts data security. Storage administrators can also keep better track of tasks execution in their cluster setup with the Check_MK monitoring tool.

The software also contains an updated driver for the Intel® 10 Gigabit PCI Express Network controller (ixgbe, v.4.3.13) and an improved set of tools for the XFS file system (xfsprogs, v.3.1.11) to enhance the stability and performance of the software further.

Krzysztof Franek, CEO and president of Open-E, on the recent update: “By adding new features and implementing the latest drivers in Open-E DSS V7, we provide users with higher stability and compatibility. This is why our storage specialists are constantly working on improving our software products: to make them even more reliable and competitive.”
