London, UK, 17 January 2006 - Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wireless networking, storage, multimedia and memory solutions, has expanded its DriveStation line of external hard drives by adding increased capacity units of 300GB (HD-HB300U2) and 400GB (HD-HB400U2).

The DriveStation is designed for home and small business users to easily back up files and the new models have been developed in response to growing demand for higher capacity. This demand is being driven by the dramatic increase in digital content, especially pictures, music and video - recent research from the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) shows a 357 per cent growth on music downloads in 2005 and Christmas sales of digital cameras at Jessops increased 23 per cent on the previous year [Source: Jessops, 9 Jan 06].

The DriveStation is a PC-compatible USB hard drive that supports USB 2.0 and USB 1.1. All capacities of the product run at 7200rpm and the fan-less design allows for silent operation while the Heat Sink Chassis cools internal components. It also comes equipped with Secure Lock Ware, a security tool which allows data held on Buffalo storage devices to be encrypted.

The DriveStation provides three automatic features for user-friendly operation; the Auto Setup function, to ensure quick, easy and driverless installation*. The Auto Power-On feature, allowing it to associate with the power of the attached computer and automatically power-on or off, and the Auto Backup feature which enables customised backup scheduling for ultimate data protection. The DriveStation line of storage devices can also be used as backup drives to Buffalo’s Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices, the LinkStation and TeraStation, and can be directly connected to Buffalo’s media player, the LinkTheater.

Backed by a limited two-year warranty, the products are immediately available at an estimated street price (ex VAT) of £110 for 300GB model (HD-HB300U2) and £180 for 400GB model (HD-HB400U2). Suppliers include eBuyer, Dabs, More Computers, Insight, PC World Business, Misco, broadbandbuyer.co.uk, broadbandstuff.co.uk and SCAN Computers.
