Chatsworth, CA - June 22, 2010 - Aleratec Inc. announced today that its complete lineup of tower hard disk drive duplicators now supports Secure Erase Sanitization for the reliable purging of hard drive data at speeds much faster than overwriting.

Responsible organizations and individuals understand that the sensitive, private data on their disposed or redeployed hard disk drives are vulnerable if those drives are not properly sanitized. Recognizing the importance of proper decommissioning for used hard disk drives, Aleratec has supported these efforts by offering overwrite sanitization, up to and including DoD recommended levels, in its tower hard disk drive duplicators. Customers have enjoyed the capability to sanitize used hard disk drives as well as create hard drive clones with a single product. Aleratec has now taken these products to the next level by adding Secure Erase sanitization, a method which significantly reduces the time necessary to decommission a hard drive.

This new feature is now included all of Aleratec's professional tower hard disk drive duplicators and offers an alternate method of sanitization which is much faster and just as dependable as traditional overwriting. In fact, Secure Erase is a National Institute of Standards and Technology 800-88 accepted technique for properly purging hard drives. This method utilizes the hard disk drive’s own hardware to wipe all data from the drive and, because Secure Erase is native to the hard drive, works up to 60% faster than a one-pass overwrite and up to 90% faster than a 7-pass overwrite.

Secure Erase is supported by almost all modern SATA hard disk drives, but in the rare case of an unsupported drive, all of Aleratec's tower hard disk drive duplicators will continue to offer their original 3 overwrite algorithms for sanitization: a one-pass wipe, a three-pass wipe with verify and a 7-pass DoD 5220.22-M wipe.

Aleratec's line of tower hard disk drive duplicators includes the 1:1 HDD Cruiser (P/N 350103), the 1:5 HDD Cruiser (P/N 350104) and the 1:11 HDD Copy Cruiser (P/N 350109). These models are all compatible with 3.5" internal SATA I/II hard disk drives and can accommodate 2.5" internal SATA I/II hard disk drives with optional adapters (P/N 350106), sold separately. They also feature tool-less, easy-load hard drive bays and Non Scratch SATA connectors designed for greater than 50,000 swap cycles, minimizing worries about drive connection issues and damage to your hard disk drives.
