Rotterdam (the Netherlands), October 2009 – Sitecom introduces the MD-253 Home Storage Center from the new Smart Living range, which makes it possible to securely save digital photos, music and movies in a central location in the network (Store) and share them will all the other users in the home (Share). Sitecom had a very ambitious mission when developing the Home Storage Center: to offer maximum security for valuable digital files in combination with a simple “out of the box” experience, which allows even inexperienced users to quickly save digital media in a central location and share it with other users. The Home Storage Center is part of the total Smart Living solution, which consists of five clever applications (Store, Share, Play, Download and Stream Wireless) and allows users to manage and get optimal enjoyment from their digital photos, music and movies. Just as with the other Smart Living products, the Home Storage Center distinguishes itself by its simplicity, performance, clever functionalities and outstanding design.
Clever & simple
The Home Storage Center has been developed from a non-technical point of view with the focus on applications and emotions. As a result, Sitecom offers an intuitive solution which excels in its ease of use and simplicity. The Home Storage Center has two drive bays in which, thanks to the advanced tray system, one or two 3.5 SATA II hard disks can be placed without the need for screws or tools. A second hard disk can be used for extra storage space or to automatically save a copy of the files that are saved on the first hard disk for extra security. Thanks to the simple installation program, the user can install and configure the Home Storage Center with only a few clicks of a mouse. The user can create public accounts, but also personal accounts which can be accessed with a username and password in order to protect personal files.
Clever & secure
The Home Storage Center guarantees maximum safety for valuable digital photos, music and movies. The Home Storage Center automatically creates a copy of the digital files that are saved on desktop PCs and notebooks in the network, so that the user always has a backup of the most recent files. Furthermore, digital content on a USB stick or a hard disk - which is connected to the USB 2.0 port - can be copied to the Home Storage Center by clicking on the backup button without the need for complicated software.
Clever & performance
The Home Storage Center is DLNA certified so that it automatically connects to other UpNP AV devices in the network, such as a notebook, desktop PC or the Smart Living TV Media Player. In combination with the TV Media Player, the user can play digital movies and music or view photographs which are saved on the Home Storage Center on a TV without the need for a computer. The Gigabit network port guarantees a high speed when reading and writing data. The Home Storage Center has a fan which automatically runs faster or slower according to the temperature, which results in a more efficient use of energy.
Furthermore, the solution has a “link down” application, which places the hard disks in the stand-by setting if they are not accessed, which results in a more efficient use of energy and a considerably longer lifespan of the hard disks. The Home Storage Center supports BitTorrent, so that the user can download large files from the BitTorrent server whilst the notebook or desktop PC is turned off. The downloaded files can then be accessed by all the users in the network. A user can share digital music files with all the other home users via the iTunes server. Besides a BitTorrent server and an iTunes server, the Home Storage Center also has an FTP server, so that the user can access the saved digital files via the Internet. This way, the user can access his favourite photos, music and movies at any time from any location.
Clever & design
Just like the other Smart Living solutions, the Home Storage Center not only distinguishes itself by its user-friendliness, but also by its stylish and exclusive design: the solution has a modern casing in off-white with characteristic leather-look and metal-look accents, so that it complements any interior.
