London, UK, 8 December 2008 – Buffalo Technology has added the sleek new LinkStation Quad to its line-up of consumer-focused NAS devices. The device is aimed at home users that require a high capacity device with media server functionality. The LinkStation Quad is available in 1.0TB, 2.0TB and 4.0TB, allowing users to cost-effectively upgrade its capacity as their storage requirements grow.
The LinkStation Quad’s Web Access feature allows users to access to their music, photos or other files stored on the device, even when they are away from home. It also allows Apple iPhone™ users to stream music and video that is stored on their LinkStation Quad to their handset. Content can be accessed by logging on to http://buffalonas.com and entering the device’s registered name. Once this has been done, users are free to view content stored on the LinkStation Quad.
The inclusion of a built-in BitTorrent Client also makes storing and accessing content extremely easy. By launching the client from the LinkStation Quad interface on the PC, files can be downloaded directly to the device, meaning there is no need for the PC to be on for the duration of the process.
The device also features a power saving function to help reduce energy costs. The user can set the LinkStation Quad to go into a low-power “sleep” mode when not in use and to “wake up” at certain times of the day. It can also be set to turn on and off with a computer. The unit’s design helps to reduce the power needed for cooling, as its chassis is designed to keep itself as cool as possible.
The four drives provide a low cost per gigabyte network storage solution. Built-in RAID management gives the choice between maximum speed (RAID 0), maximum redundancy (RAID 1, 10) or a combination of both (RAID 5)
Removing and replacing the drives is easy and there is no need for a screwdriver. Users can simply remove the magnetic front panel, press the quick release clip and slide the drive out.
Other key features of the LinkStation Quad include:
- Built in media server to connect to DNLA compatible digital entertainment devices.
- One touch transfer of media files from digital cameras and camcorders using Direct Copy feature.
- Seamless integration with iTunes8® to access music files on LinkStation Quad from iTunes software.
- Easy set-up with no drivers required.
- Memeo AutoBackup Software allows Windows and Mac users to automatically backup their data.
- Drives can be easily removed and swapped by opening the front panel of the device.
- 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet with JumboFrame support.
The LinkStation Quad is backed by a limited two-year warranty and is available from Misco, Insight, Dabs and eBuyer at an estimated street price of:
