VIA Welcomes the Latest Version of Windows CE .NET
VIA announces full support for the update of Windows CE .NET, ensuring
compatibility with all silicon building blocks aimed at the embedded device
space
Taipei, Taiwan, 30 July 2002
- VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator and developer of
silicon chip technologies and PC platform
solutions, today welcomed the latest update
to the Microsoft Windows CE .NET embedded operating system, Windows CE .NET
version 4.1, formerly codenamed “Jameson”, announcing dedicated technical
compatibility with the new specification and full driver support.
VIA is a leading provider of
embedded technologies, offering a wide range of silicon building blocks that
enable OEMs and system integrators to build high performance yet cost effective
embedded devices. In particular, the VIA EdenÔ
Platform, the industry’s lowest power native x86 embedded platform with
market-leading thermal characteristics, is the ideal solution for ergonomic
fanless system designs for a variety of innovative low profile, small form
factor devices, as well as lending itself to the mobile market with its
significantly lower energy costs and longer battery life. Embedded systems based
on the VIA Eden Platform cover all market segments, from Information Appliances
such as web pads and set top boxes for the consumer and commercial market to
industrial computing designs and retail POS solutions.
With its growing presence in
the embedded market, VIA extends full support for Windows CE .NET, as it
satisfies market demands for enhanced management of small form factor and mobile
devices, as well as providing extra functionality, especially support for file
viewers for viewing popular file types such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
and Adobe Acrobat.
“In today’s
growing device market, OEMs look to companies like VIA for engineering resources
and skills to assist them in quickly developing their Windows Powered devices,”
said Keith White, senior director of marketing for the Embedded and Appliance
Platforms Group at Microsoft Corp. “By offering full support of Windows CE .NET,
VIA continues to demonstrate its commitment to the embedded industry by
delivering innovative silicon chip technologies that help developers deliver
their products quickly and cost effectively.”
“Microsoft’s Windows CE .NET
operating system makes a major contribution towards delivering our vision of
‘Total Connectivity’ by providing an essential software link between the
embedded market and the installed PC base,” commented Richard Brown, Director of
Marketing at VIA Technologies, Inc. “We fully anticipate the richer feature set
of Windows CE .NET to enhance the performance of small form factor and mobile
devices and further extend the reach and utility of the Internet.”
