London, UK, 7 April, 2010 –LG Electronics (LG) is showcasing its highly anticipated OLED TV (15EL9500) at the Gadget Show Live this week to give UK consumers a taste of an exciting new way of watching content. At 15 inches, this breakthrough TV will be the largest OLED screen available for consumers to buy when it launches this April, putting LG at the forefront of home entertainment and technical innovation. In addition to giving consumers the best viewing experience, the ultra thin 3mm depth is sure to impress anyone with its stylish design.

LG’s OLED TV boasts a spectacular, brighter picture from any angle with superior contrast ratio (10,000,000: 1) whilst also being more energy efficient.  The absence of a backlight results in deeper blacks against stronger, more vibrant colours and also allows for the slim design. An ideal addition to the luxurious bathroom, kitchen or bedroom, LG’s OLED TV is also water-resistant meaning you can set it up almost anywhere.

The screen is HD Ready 720p with built in digital freeview and includes a USB 2.0 input allowing for playback of movies in stunning high definition. Equipped with LG’s Trumotion 100Hz technology, viewers can enjoy the seamless movement of images with a rapid response time of 0.1msec making it ideal for watching fast paced films and sporting events.

Stephen Gater, Head of Marketing LG Home Entertainment Company, commented, “OLED really is the future of television screens and LG is proud to be the market leader when it comes to this breakthrough technology.  This week marks the first time the LG OLED is displayed in the UK and we’re confident this innovative and style-conscious set will grab the attention of anyone looking for the next top-of-the-line gadget.’

Not sure what OLED means and what it can do? Read on for more information about the technology behind the next generation in TV screen technology:

  • OLED is a light-emitting diode (LED) that is composed of a film of self-illuminating organic compounds.
  • OLED screens can be made flexible or transparent presenting possibilities such as foldable OLED TVs that can be rolled up into a tube to store away when not in use.
  • In years to come OLED TVs will be so thin and transparent that they will appear invisible when not in use, only apparent when lit up with an image.
