Over $4.5 billion loss for Sony since PS3 launch

Sony's Q2 financial report, released today, reveals that the company has lost almost $5 billion across its PlayStation division since the launch of the PS3 in 2007.

The stats, dissected by VG247 , reveal the following losses each year:

FY 2007: -$1,970,923,859
FY 2008: -$1,079,994,103
FY 2009: -$577,207,240
FY 10Q1: -$413,541,667
FY 10Q2: -$653,333,333

Sony blames the heavy losses on “the impact of the appreciation of the yen as well as a decrease in unit sales of PlayStation 2 hardware and software”.

VG247 also calculates that Microsoft’s Xbox division took a loss of $4.2 billion in the four years following the launch of Xbox.

Will Sony match Nintendo loosing 47% in profits? Don't think so.

Let don't forget that Sony isn't only about PS3….

As said above they do a lot of other stuff, tv, projectors, sound, the list goes on.

I really dont know what Sony were thinking with the PSPGO, in this current climate you need something cheap (around £100 or less). They would have probably been better off slashing the price of the current psp lite.
