Environmentally friendly too...?

The oldest TV I can remember my family owning is an ancient Sony set that came complete with a wooden finish, it sure did look the part back in the day. Whilst I don't quite see a wooden set fitting into my new household, Dixons and Swedish company Swedx certainly think there's a place for HD wooden TVs and have revealed a new range of LCDs embedded in natural solid wood.

Available in three unique finishes (ash, beech or sapele wood), Swedx claim its TVs are "a natural, renewable, sustainable, recyclable resource" and hence, environmentally friendly. At a cost of £349.99 however, they're not the most wallet friendly 19" sets on the market.

Real natural ash wood anyone?

Most importantly, these TVs aren't just a fashion statement. Though only available in 19" models, the sets consist of a Samsung LCD screen and boasts the following set of features:

  • HD Ready
  • Integrated Digital Tuner
  • 1440 x 900 Pixels
  • Contrast 1001:1
  • HDMI Input
  • VGA Scart, AV & Video Input
  • Nicam Sound
  • LTM190M2 Samsung LCD Panel
  • Ash, Beech or Sapele Wood finish

I'll have to hold my hand up on this one and admit, the specification isn't going to blow anyone away but I still think they're cool. My 32" shiny black Samsung LCD just doesn't look as warm and inviting anymore...

Very nice, a nice dark wooden one would go a treat with my coffee table.
Looks so ugly! Was expecting some cool designer style wooden frame around the TV, thats just a TV wrapped in wood.
That looks like a CGI pic rather than one of an actual wooden TV, so it might not be as bad in real life.
I had my old Hitachi wooden crt for 25 years…:)
Surely this has got to be aimed purely at the IKEA flat pack homes… it surely won't fit in anywhere else.
