Microsoft push for China

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - Microsoft Corp. is in no hurry as it evaluates China for a possible launch of the Xbox 360, the company official in charge of the game console for the region said Thursday."We're working with the government pretty actively in trying to understand what it is we need to do," said Alan Bowman, general manager of entertainment and devices for Asia Pacific and Greater China. "We're taking a very careful approach in China."

The new machine will go on sale for $380 for the premium package and $300 for the core system in South Korea on Friday. The launches in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore are scheduled for March 16th. Bowman offered no release date for China, he said, "It's a very controlled environment. We're going to make sure that we make the right moves, develop the right content, have the right partnerships in place. It's not something you want to rush in and do."

Sony have turned their backs on China by cancelling the PS2 launch. Sony blamed the 'unfavourable environment' for the postponement.

Whilst Sony and Nintendo turn their backs on certain parts of Asia, due to bootlegging, Microsoft are ploughing full steam ahead to gain the market in China.
