Kicking up a storm

Patriot has bolstered its range of high-end solid state drives two new models in what t is calling the Wildfire series. Available in 120Gb and 240GB capacities, with a

The SandForce SF-2200 controller enables the Wildfire SSD series to reach sequential read and write speeds of 555MB/s and 520MB/s respectively. The drives will also deliver Up to 85K 4K random write IOPS, and will need to be connected to a 6GB/s SATA port to see the best results. TRIM support is also on-board, although that's not such a rarity any more.

Although the Wildfire series drives come in a 2.5in form factor, Patriot clearly knows there's likely to be a lot of interest from the traditional desktop crowd, and so is bundling a 3.5in to 3.5in adaptor with each drive. Also encouraging is the use of Patriot's latest firmware, such that the company says the Wilefire series isn't affected by its recent wave of recalls.

Patroit is proud of its Wildfire SSD's speed and stability, despite being somewhat behind the market. "The Patriot Wildfire is the fastest SSD drive we have ever released," says William Lai, Patriot Memory's Product Manager. "Although we are a bit late to market, we wanted to ensure that the technology was rock-solid. We are confident with the latest firmware, Patriot's reputation for quality and performance stand second-to-none. "

Patriot hasn't announced specific UK pricing, but given the specs, the Wildfire SSDs aren't likely to come cheap.

Do you mean 2.5“ to 3.5” adapter :P
HTC are still selling the Wildfire S… too soon, should have gone for something else.
I did read the title and think they'd installed an SSD inside the Wildfire.. (technically true, but not the same level of performance as SSD implies). Still, they're very different products so it's hard to get confused. Unless you were to say “my Wildfire's awesome” unexpectedly without pointing at your phone.
