Sparkling environments...

Krome have attempted to spice things up in Spyro by adding flying levels which offer a change in pace and a welcome break to the main combat segments. There are also a few puzzles to solve, including using your fire power to set some statues on fire in order to open a set of doors, but the main bulk of the action lies in the repetitive combat.

Despite the graphics being a far cry from previous games with some sparkling environments, which are well detailed and colourful, Krome's efforts to re-invent the series by adding upgradeable powers, intense combat and a half decent storyline haven't quite had the desired effect. The action is extremely repetitive, too easy and flawed in many ways; the game's only saving grace is the fine animation and the actors' polished performances.

Younger gamers will still love the colourful graphics and Spyro’s responsive and visually impressive powers, but adults will find little to keep them hooked on this latest adventure.

Pros
Excellent voice acting
Polished, colourful graphics
Upgradeable powers

Cons
Fighting waves of enemies becomes repetitive
Poor AI
Poor camera angles

A bold attempt to re-invent the Spyro series; children will enjoy it, adults won't be impressed.
