Fantastic?
The only real challenge that you'll face is the puzzle solving parts in the game, but even these are really basic, although youngsters may still find them challenging. There are weight puzzles, where you might need to switch between all four characters and direct them to stand on separate platforms so that a door can be unlocked. There's a number of buttons that need to be pressed so that you can open a gate, but you'll need Mister Fantastic to stretch up there to reach them. There are numerous laser beams blocking pathways that you'll need to fly over with Human Torch to disable them so that your team-mates can have a safe passage to the next area and there are sequences that you'll play purely as the individual characters, including flying through a fiery tunnel at break neck speed, bobbing up and down avoiding lasers and missiles that are being directed at you. It actually doesn't sound too bad if you were to see the game's features and missions on paper, but when you put it into practice the puzzles are lacking imagination and the individual missions are far too easy. The lack of a decent challenge may not be an issue to those who want to pick up some achievement points or for children who are fans of the film, but personally I found Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer a bit frustrating and fairly dull as a result.
Fans of the Fantastic Four will probably get some enjoyment out of using the special powers and searching for collectibles across the levels, which in turn unlocks character costumes and historical comic covers, but the lack of a multiplayer mode and the repetitive levels and lack of creativity means that there’s zero replay value.
The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is a very average superhero game that's heavy on action, but light on ideas. It fails to draw you into that superhero mindset, but stalwart fans of the characters will still enjoy being able to switch and use the powers of their favourite heroes.
