Graphics and Sound

The graphics and sound of Driver San Francisco are what you’d expect from a current-gen game, with authentically modelled cars and a finely detailed recreation of 70's San Francisco. Furthermore, the destruction of vehicles is realistic and satisfying and cut scenes are stunning, with characters’ faces rendered in astonishing detail. Ultimately, this helps immerse you in the game’s story, which plays out much like a television show with some excellent voice acting taking centre stage. The soundtrack is strong and varied too, boasting over 60 licensed songs that really fit the mood of a 70's cop-chase.

To conclude, Driver: San Francisco is a brilliant, well-rounded game that feels like an evolution of the series, yet sticks impressively to its arcade roots. While it probably won’t do as well as some of the big-named games scheduled for November release, it still has all the markings of a big-budget game, with the defining feature - 'Shifting' from car-to-car - proving that the developer thought long and hard about how to bring the Driver series into a brand new era, while retaining everything that made it so popular in the first instance.

I've no personal experience with previous Driver games but when I saw this on Steam a while back, I just expected something fairly generic. After reading this and a couple of other reviews, I'm actually quite shocked.

Hope the PC version turns out well and isn't too Ubishafted.
I've always been of the school of ‘Driving Games = Console, FPS = PC’

Might have to get this for the PS3… Or actually finish the games I've got, then get it on Platinum…

That used to be my rule too, at least until Microsoft got involved with consoles. Compatibility with their controllers makes it a non-issue nowadays though.
