All new weapons add tactical variety
The variety of weapons gives you a wide range of tactical options and you're introduced to new ones as you move through the chapters. In multiplayer there’s often a scramble for the best weapons, but when playing alone you'll get total freedom experiment with the whole weapon set and find out their strengths and weaknesses. It’s a very balanced weapon set too. Machine guns and shot-guns are perfect for fighting human foot soldiers, or blasting away at spawn pods and smaller Akrid, while the likes of EMP grenades and lazers are excellent for paralysing VS Suits and mechanical enemies. Rocket and grenade launches on the other hand are superb for tackling the giant monsters. You'll find your own favourites whether it be disc grenades, Pile Bunkers, or the range of VS weapons and you’ll find yourself switching and changing weapons often to tackle different types of enemies. There dose seem to be a targeting problem with the Rifles on occasions when it doesn't register a head-shot, but largely the weapon set is balanced, effective and affords you with a multitude of tactical options. This isn’t just a run-and-gun shooter, there’s a real tactical element to the play that helps to immerse you in its battles.The range of VS Suits is brilliant. Alongside standard VS Suits that host Gatling Guns and Rocket Launchers, you have Ospreys that are like helicopters, some VS Suits that transform from two-legged mechanical beasts to disc-shaped spaceships and multi-seat VS that fit three people. You have VS Suits that dash, others that fly and others that fire rockets in the sky that land on top of your target like you've called in an air-strike. You'll find yourself hoping in and out of VS Suits whenever you see a large group of enemies or Akrid. It's a lot of fun blasting away in these superbly designed suits.
