Aim for the orange core

It's a huge testament to the gameplay that these frustrations are easily forgotten due to the fast-paced action and the enjoyable unpredictabilty of taking on a new Akrid, finding a new VS Suit that you can hop into, or exploring some of the brilliantly designed levels. The pacing and the way the game is structured is a real highlight. Lost Planet 2 is split into six Episodes, each consisting of a number of chapters and then each chapter split into a number of areas. The areas are fairly short when playing with friends and perfect for short bursts of gameplay. These short areas keep the action feeling fresh and with each area offering something different keeps things exciting. When playing alone with friendly AI it takes you much longer to complete these areas and frustration can set in when you've engaged in a number of hard fought battles and then die fighting the big boss and have to start again (there really should be more save points, or a save in-game option,) but you can never argue that it wasn't fun getting there.

At times, Lost Planet 2 has an arcade pace feel to the gameplay, and each area tantalizinlgy offers something different to see, whether it be a brand new environment, a new Akrid, or a new set of weapons. Though you'll spend a large part of the game activating data posts, there's a real unpredictability about what you're going to face and the type of location that you'll get to fight them in. This makes Lost Planet 2 more exciting and immersive than its predecessor. These arcade paced missions are nicely contrasted by slower paced objectives where you'll be tasked with exploring an environment in the search for dataposts. Then, all of a sudden, the pace will ramp up once again, the music will pick up tempo and you'll be off again fighting the next giant insect, or group of foot soldiers.
