Review: Slouchpod Interactive XT - Interactive Gaming Chair

An Audio experience?



First off, I used the additional audio cable extenders to plug the chair into my Xbox 360, something which was simple and took merely seconds to do, then I immediately jumped into a game of Gears of War; a game well known for its stirring audio experience. The Slouchpod did significantly enhance the experience in the same way that surround sound occasionally fills you with a sense of paranoia, because you’re not sure whether the banging that you can hear is coming from next door or the computer game.

I plugged in the PSP for a game of FIFA 07 and it sounded as if the crowd were chanting all around me and successfully amplified the normal sound of the PSP to a level that genuinely enhanced the experience. I've also used the chair’s function to watch Lord of The Rings on DVD, play Tiger Woods on Wii, and even test out that strange 'muzac' that seems to be a feature of practically every Nintendo DS game; in every case the Slouchpod did enhance the sound and the comfort of sitting in the chair made all of these experiences pleasurable.



The functionality of the Slouchpod isn't exceptional by any means (there's no vibration like some gaming chairs on the market) but it's clear to see that the designers have spent their time wisely on providing a comfortable and solid product, which does boost the experience of playing videogames.

As with most wired products it does mean that the wires need to be laid across the floor in a way that people aren't going to trip over them easily, but the only significant downside is that your comfort is interrupted by the need to change over cables whenever you want to change your media device. I'm a media junkie, so I'm constantly switching between DVD's, TV, consoles, handhelds, PC and MP3s, so this fiddling around doesn't really cater for my own personal laziness, but those of a more active persuasion shouldn't find this to be a problem.
