A clever box of tricks

The Bluedelta Smart-SCART PLUS is an automatic SCART switching box, which allows you to plug in up to six SCART devices using SCART connectors and another two using composite or S-video. The Smart-SCART PLUS features a switching system that senses which input is supplying a signal and switches to that input. But the really clever bit is in the last three inputs. These feature a thing called Video-Sense, which is Bluedelta’s handy trick for making sure a connected device gets its signal displayed when you want… even if that device doesn't send the required signal that the SCART standard needs.

So if you’ve got the set-up I mentioned on the previous page, you’ve more than likely got the video looped through the Sky box, so you can record from Sky onto tape and both of those feed into the first SCART input on your TV. Your DVD player runs on its own SCART cable to the second SCART input in your telly. So what happens when you want to play with the PS2, GameCube, Xbox or Xbox 360? Of course, you can hook them up via composite to the composite input under that fiddly little flap on the telly, but this is a messy solution, especially if you’ve got more than one console.

The Smart-SCART PLUS does away with all that malarkey, meaning you can have everything connected all the time and just flick between what you want to view on the screen. Further, with the recording loop built into the unit, you can now record from any device to any recording device…. And there’s no need for pressing buttons on the SCART control box or mucking about with cables… once you’ve got it set up you can just forget its even there and get on with life.
