Multiplayer madness

Multiplayer is being handled by a totally different studio, UK-based Endrant Studios. Recently, in an interview with Gamespot, Endrant went into some detail about what we can expect. Endrant’s lead game designer Matt Wilson revealed that we’ll be playing as either the Resistance or the Axis and can choose to be a soldier, medic or engineer, all of which will have specific veil powers.

"We wanted to retain the overall feel and impact it has in single-player in the multiplayer side of things.Players can enter the veil dimension and use veil powers much like the ones BJ [Blazkowicz, the single-player character] has access to, as well as all the standard weapons and items."

With four game modes to choose from: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Objective, and Stopwatch, and eight maps that expand on areas from the single player campaign, multiplayer will be brimming with strategic opportunity, with unlockables that will undoubtedly sway the tide of battle.

"Some of the choices you'll have to make are things like power versus accuracy, reload time versus recoil/muzzle kick. If you're a medic, do you want your veil power to heal people faster, or would you prefer it to also heal you a little bit as you're healing other people? “ said Wilson.

Inevitably, we can also expect a graphical overhaul to bring the series in line with the standard of today’s videogames, with a overhaul of the idTech4 engine (Quake 4, Doom 3.) But alongside features such as sot shadowing and post-processing effects, the physics engine is also said to play an important role, helping to create a new level of immersion. “You'll see thousands of objects and everything bouncing around in the world,” explains Nix.

So, some familiar Wolfenstein gameplay looks to have been mixed up with some new ideas that should, in theory, evolve the Wolfenstein series to the next stage. We haven't got long to wait now and we're excited to find out. We’ll have a full review on HEXUS.gaming in the lead up to the game’s release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on August 21,2009.
