Xbox 360 Falcon Chips arrive, but will they stop overheating?

If you've picked up one of the new Halo 3 Xbox 360 consoles, you may be interested to hear that they include the new 65nm Falcon CPUs, which are supposed to reduce power consumption, thus meaning that there should be less heat output.

Apparently, not all of the new consoles have the chip, but Kotaku claim that if the barcode on the box has the words August 24, 2007 from team "FDOU" and part of lot 734, then your console will have the new chip.

Hopefully, this should mean that you won't suffer the same overheating problems as thousands of others had to put up with, with their 90nm consoles...right? Well, this guy's console has already "apparently" overheated, and he claims that he has the new 65nm chip.

so there is still overheat issues? LOL i dont think there is a solution at all in fixing the 3 red lights :(

From what I can gather, when it comes to 3-red lights and over heating issues, it is the GPU and not the CPU that is mainly to blame. With the GPU unchanged then it makes sense that this issue will continue at some level.

of course there will still be failures; its a new chip not a magic trip. But hopefully the number of failures will fall

Correct. So many people have been hyping the Falcon as the savior of the 360, but the only real change is the CPU. Until we see the GPU go down to 65nm then the failure's of the 360 will continue.
