Over the Christmas period, whist we've been stuffing our faces with turkey dinners, turkey curries and turkey sandwiches, the three giants of the gaming industry, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have been battling head to head hoping that their consoles would top of the charts over the festive season.
In the US, the Xbox 360 has won the Christmas battle of the consoles according to financial analysts, NPD, who claim that approximately 2 million units were sold between November and 25th December.
Nintendo's Wii finished a close second with 1.8 million units sold. In the same period, there were approximately 750,000 PS3 units sold with Sony claiming that stock shortages were the reason behind the low figures.
Research and Markets, a world leader in International market research claim that the despite Sony's poor start to the New Year they believe that 75 million PS3s will be sold by the year 2010 and predict that, in the long term, Sony will win the next gen console wars.
Accurate sales figures for both the US and UK should be released later this month.
