Like any huge, big-budget franchise, we were expecting the next iteration in the Killzone series to maybe be announced next year with a release date a couple of years down the line, but the Official PlayStation Magazine suggest it will be much sooner than that.

The magazine states that Guerilla's first person shooter is deep into its development stage and will be released next year, 2010. Considering Killzone 2 hasn't even been out for a year yet, and it took over 5 years to develop, it seems a little surprising that a sequel will be launched so quickly.

The game engine is already there though and has proved itself as a real heavyweight on PS3, as are some solid foundations for the continuation of a brilliant multiplayer component. All that's really missing is a new storyline and some new locations. If Killzone 3 does get a release next year, we'd expect it to launch with many of same features that have earned it such a glowing reputation this year. That's good though, right? The more Killzone the better as far as we're concerned, even if it is more of the same.

I bought my PS3 w/ KZ2 and tbh it was a bit lame for lack of better word. The gameplay was weak online and was nothing more than a brawl without the option to halo/quake jump out of there. It's a shame as there are some really good features just waiting to be realised, the execution just didn't pay off.
