Microsoft USA offers NXE storage solution for compulsary Xbox 360 update

So we're all looking forward to the New Xbox Experience which lands on November 19th and will transform the existing Xbox 360 dashboard and add a host of new features to enhance the Xbox live service. But did you know that it requires 128MB of free space to download?

That's bad news for some Xbox 360 owners who don't have sufficient memory on their console, but who will still be forced to accept the compulsory patch.

The good news, however, is that Microsoft is doing something about it and will offer eligible owners of specific Xbox 360's cheap memory upgrades. Owners of the Arcade models, which come without hard drives, will be offered a 20GB HD and three months of Xbox Live for $29.99 - a saving of approximately $50. Core owners will be offered a free 512 MB memory card or a refurbished $19.99 20GB hard drive.

To take advantage of the offer you'll first have to head over to Xbox.com to see if your console is eligible for a memory upgrade.

The offer has currently only been announced in the USA.

Hmmm very interesting indeed! Is this perhaps a sign of a shift away from HDD less models? TBH I think MS should be pushing a cheap model complete with hard drive at the bottom of the range not just the arcade by itself.

I tried this (Arcade with a 20gb HDD) and it said I had sufficient space so it must know I have a HDD from the console ID (via live perhaps?) Was looking forward to a cheap drive!
How can the dash update be forced on users if they don't have a mem card/HDD (even if they HAVE one they might not plug it in) would be interesting to see how the console would handle that.
