Following the news that Microsoft has ceased production of the HD DVD add-on for Xbox 360, they’ve now wisely slashed the price in an attempt to shift some of the remaining stock.

Not only is ebay awash with unwanted HD DVD units, but the official US Xbox site is now offering the drives for just $49.99, that’s approximately $200 less that the initial recommended retail price.

The official UK Xbox site still has the Xbox 360 accessory listed at £114.99, but a price reduction will no doubt be just around the corner and Amazon already have them listed at £64.99. So, if you haven't bought one, but still want to experience what the HD DVD era was like, before it fades into the annuls of history forever, then now is the time to pick one up. Maybe in a few decades time you’ll be able to flog it to a museum or you may just want to look back at it with nostalgia and remember all the fun we had debating whether HD DVD or Blu Ray would win the high def format war.
