Xbox live problems caused by increase in user base
Microsoft are today shouting from the rooftops about their successful sales period, in which they sold approximately 4.3 million Xbox 360s in the last three months of 2007.Prior to the last three months, Microsoft say they have sold a total of 13.4 millon consoles, bringing the overall total of console's sold since launch to 17.7 million.
Microsoft believe the sales surge was spurred on by big titles such as Halo 3 (which sold more than 8.1 million copies) and Mass Effect.
Microsoft's Xbox Live General Manager Marc Whitten has also partly blamed the recent connection problems with Xbox live on the increase in users over the Christmas period. Xbox live currently had approximately 8 million subscribers before Christmas, but the latest figures are yet to be released.
"While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance," Whitten said.
According to reports, Nintendo has sold 13.2 million Wiis and Sony has sold 5.6 million PS3s since their prospective launches.
