Just in time for Christmas? lovely...

In an interview with the Financial Times, Sony CEO Howard Stringer has finally given a firm indication that Sony are planning to cut the price of the PS3 by Christmas.

"[PS3 pricing] is what we're studying at the moment; that's what we're trying to refine," said Stringer."I think I would be the first to say to you that Nintendo Wii has been a successful enterprise and a very good business model compared to ours... because it's cheaper."

Analysts had already predicted that Sony would drop the price before the Christmas period following the news that Blu-Ray players are becoming cheaper to produce. "If the cost of Blu-ray is coming down, you can drop the price of anything with Blu-ray in it," said an analyst with Sterne Agee & Leach Inc. "Any price cut is sure to boost PS3 sales, and sales of games designed for the console".

According to speculation from analysts Goldman Sachs, Sony will drop the price of the PS3 by $100 in time for the Christmas sales period.
