Since the price announcement of Sony's Playstation 3 the net has been awash with rumours of an immenent price drop. Some anaylsts were suggesting that Sony could lower the console by as much as $200 before the launch in November.

It's bad news though, Sony have spoken to Gameshout and confirmed that they have no intention of dropping the price, they said that they are "confident that the price for the PS3 is on target and will not change before the PS3 launch."

Sony Computer Entertainment's UK operation, Ray Maguire has also spoken out about the price of the PS3 by saying that it is 'not one intended to appeal to the mass market but was more geared toward early adopters.'

So, it's either fork out £425 or wait with baited breath for Sony's first price drop after the launch. Unfortunately, it also looks as though the rumour that the 20Gb version will not be available in the U.K is in fact true. The head of Sony Computer Entertainment's UK division, Ray Maguire confirmed their plans by saying. "The lower-end, 20GB version of [the] PlayStation 3 has no Wi-Fi, no HDMI and none of the other slots in it, so it's really a question of where we would position it. It's more likely that we will only launch the 60GB version."
