Sony's MotorStorm series looks set for a fourth outing after a new filing reveals that the company has registered the domain name MotorStorm 3, which currently re-directs visitors to the official UK PlayStation site.

Following the success of MotorStorm in 2006, which coincided with the European release of the PlayStation 3, Sony released a follow-up in 2008, called MotorStorm Pacific Rift and then launched a PSP spin-off called MotorStorm: Artic Edge.

With a two year gap in between the first and second game in the series, it seems likely that if indeed MotorStorm 3 is in development it will probably be announced for PS3 at some point in 2010.

All is quiet over at the official website of MotorStorm developer Evolution Studios which hasn't been updated for quite a while. The registering of a website domain isn't always proof that a game is in development, but the evolution of Sony's big selling MotorStorm franchise seems inevitable.
