Sony has confirmed that the Playstation 3 firmware update v2.42 is now available to download, but don't expect any major changes.

Following the release of the big firmware update 2.4 earlier this month, which added a new trophy system, an in-game XMB bar and a number of feature enhancements, this latest update simply improves playback quality.

Via the official Playstation blog, Patrick Goss tells us:

"Just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up that a PS3 firmware update (v2.42) is now available for download," said PlayStation Network operations director Eric Lempel on the official blog

"This update improves the playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation format software."
