New game modes and enemies
The premise will be the same, with the gameplay taking part on a grid in which you’re totally confined to a geometrical area. Within this area you have to fight off dozens of shapes by moving around the grid dodging them and the missiles that they fire, whilst attempting to destroy them with your own weapons. GEOMS, the game’s currency, will once again feature and can be used to unlock further planets or to upgrade drones. The new game modes include Deadline, King, Evolved, Waves, Sequence and Pacifism. The modes will combine racing against the clock to racking up as many points as possible, but there's a few new twists, such as Pacifism mode, where you don't shoot at your enemies at all, but instead need to avoid their fire as you make your way through gates. Once you pass through a gate it will explode killing all enemies around you. Though we've yet to see the some of the other game modes in action, we're promised a diverse gaming experience.
They'll be new enemies of course, which will no doubt be just as inventive as the old ones, such as snake - the small circle with tiny triangles as a body that weaves its way around the grid unleashing its venom at you - and we're also promised a funky new soundtrack and a graphical makeover. Most of all though, we're really looking forward to seeing how Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 will play out online. Should be good folks.
Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 is due for release on the Xbox live arcade this Autumn.
