Sennheiser MX90VC earphones
The MX90VC was the product that I was most interested in, as I continued my search for a set of comfortable earphones.
At close to £28, this is the most expensive set in the round-up. And, with a claimed frequency range of 18Hz-22,000Hz, it's also the best-specified.
There's a 1.2m cable with a volume control and gold-plated jack plug. A small plastic carrying case is provided, too. Impedance is 64 ohms.
The MX90VC differs somewhat from conventional earphones. As well as earpieces, it has what's described as an "innovative twist-to-fit holding system".
This slots into the outer ear, the idea being to try to ensure a good and secure fit.
To that end, Sennheiser includes a range of different-sized earpieces and a variety of holding-system pads for a tailor-fit to your ears.
It's a clever design and it certainly holds the earphones securely in place. Trouble is, I didn't find them comfortable to wear, no matter what I did with the different combinations.
Given that I have yet to find a comfy set of earphones and that none of my friends seems to have similar problems, I think it's safe to assume that I must have weirdly-shaped or extremely-sensitive ears.
Perhaps I should ask my Vulcan father if he can shed some light on this?
There were no problems, however, with the audio quality of the MX90VC. It was excellent, providing smooth and precise sound for everything from simple pop music to complicated orchestral arrangements.
So, three pretty good products across a range of price-points.
